Yonel Lebovici ‘X’ stools in stainless steel, France 1973

Rare pair of 'X' stools by Yonel Lebovici (1937 -1998), France 1973. The stools are made from high gloss polished stainless steel and have the original blown up transparant plastic seats beside the more functional cognac colored nubuck cushions we had custom made. Just like most of his designs, Lebovici made these stools in a very limited number. Lebovici graduated aeronautics in 1955 and wanted to develop his technical skills into the artistic field which brought him to the Ecole des Arts et Métiers from where he graduated in 1957. He started working with light materials at the SNCASE (aeronautics society), in 1965 he participated at the renown salon Euro design in Nancy in 1965. In 1973 he established Group MOB6 with François Arnal, Michel Boyer, Pierre Folie, Jean-Pierre Mesmin and Bernard Berthet, soon joined by Andrée Putman and Ben Swildens. His work is always at the cross line between art and design due to the choice of materials, the outspoken shapes & design, the question between usage and functionality (aesthetic versus functionality) and the limited numbers. The stools are both functional as the are aesthetically, a perfect balans to add some refined class into any room with these functional sculptures. Bibliography: Yonel Lebovici, A. Bony, Ed. du Regard, 2022, page 243; see last photo in our photo series. Very rare and collectible pieces in excellent condition.
