Terry Haass ‘La Galaxie’ Light sculpture, France 1970

Rare light sculpture 'La Galaxie' by Terry Haass (1923-2016), France 1970. Terry Haass (born Terezie Goldmannová) was a Czech born French artist known for her printmaking, painting, and sculpture. Haass took lessons by sculptor Osip Zadkine and began working in 1947 at the experimental and influential workshop Atelier 17 where she met Pollock, de Kooning, Gorky and others. She was close friends with Hans Hartung and his wife. From the 1960s Haass started making sculptures in stainless steel, wood, and Plexiglas such as this piece, focusing on time and space. Greatly influenced Albert Einstein’s theories of time and space, she incorporated these revolutionary ideas into her work. The work is composed of a black acrylic base with a hidden linear light source which lits a with 'the galaxy' decorated and cut out transparant acrylic panel reflecting in a V-shaped mirrored acrylic panel which can be placed into different angles to reflect 'the galaxy' into numerous infinite options. Signed on the right corner: T Haass. In excellent original condition.
