Sculptural curved chairs in Plexiglass by artist Esther Hess, France 1967

Sculptural curved chairs by artist Esther Hess (1919 - 2016), France 1967. Exquisite set with flowing curved shapes out of clear plexiglass resulting in outstanding sculptural objects. The chairs have ellipsoid shaped cushions upholstered in a thick voluminous mohair by Pierre Frey®. One chair has a sinusoidal shape out of one piece with a thick plexiglass cilinder in the center, the second chair has a inverted sinusoidal structure for the base and top part out of one one piece with a flat seat in between. Wonderful objects that evoke an interesting contradiction between the traditional shapes, reminiscent of ancient Roman curule seats (symbol of power and status), in a modern material. Hess was born in Switzerland and moved to Paris in 1954 from where she was active during her career. Hess mainly made paintings and minimal works in ink, as an international artist, she exhibits and is part of collections in many museums and galleries. The chairs are made in a limited number, both chairs signed and numbered: Esther Hess, 003. In excellent condition.
