Sculptural Bar by Nerone & Patuzzi – Gruppo NP2, Italy 1960s

Sculptural Bar by Nerone & Patuzzi for Gruppo NP2, Italy, 1960s. Unique and monumental piece, exclusively made for a villa in Turin during the 1960s. Executed from richly stained, carved wooden bas-reliefs showing a variety of organic and free-form geometric shapes arranged into a harmonious composition, topped with a 6 cm thick solid marble slab — resulting in this stunning architectural object. The interplay of concave and convex forms, circles, arcs and linear motifs creates a dynamic visual rhythm — a signature of Nerone’s research into geometric shapes, which was the main theme in his work. The beige marble counter surface is finished with a structured surface and linear-structured edges. The back of the bar offers plenty of storage space behind the six doors and five drawers, which were customarily added to complete the piece. The wood shows a rich, warm patina which has become more characteristic and beautiful over the years — with subtle tonal variations that accentuate the relief’s depth and complexity. Gruppo NP2 was founded in Turin in 1962 by Nerone Ceccarelli and Giancarlo Patuzzi. Nerone was the creator of the artworks; he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and Florence and moved to Turin in 1957. Signed at the center of the bar: NP2, Nerone - Patuzzi. In excellent condition.
