Nerone & Patuzzi (Gruppo NP2) coffee table, Italy 1970s

Sculptural coffee table by Nerone and Patuzzi for Gruppo NP2, Italy 1970. Composed of solid wood, built up in layered sections and carved into a strong sculptural form. The design clearly reflects Nerone’s distinctive visual language, where organic lines meets geometric shapes. Characteristic elements such as the varying relief levels, the interplay between curved and angular lines, and the two raised circular details give the piece a strong architectural presence. The wood has a deep, warm tone and a richly nuanced surface. Nerone employed a special finishing technique to bring the material to life: during the making process, the surface was polished and darkened through friction, and sometimes a flame, then treated with multiple layers of coloured wax. The piece remains in excellent condition.
