Mobile Kinetic Light box by Perla Benveniste, Buenos Aires 1970s

Mobile Kinetic Light box by Perla Benveniste, Buenos Aires 1970s. Intriguing early work from the early seventies, crafted from a black methacrylate box with a transparent front hiding circular orange colored methacrylate tubes, a white rotating diffusive disc which is decorated with various filters in different shapes and colors. A small motor enables movement, while two light sources project a dynamic interplay of shifting shapes and colors. The result is a captivating and serene composition of floating forms that change with every rotation.

Perla Benveniste studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón in Buenos Aires, graduating in 1963. She became a key figure in the Argentine avant-garde and the emerging kinetic art movement, Cinetismo. Benveniste was involved in major exhibitions of kinetic and experimental art in Argentina throughout the 1960s and 1970s, establishing herself as an important figure of the period.

The work remains in its fully original state, with the original motor and installation in excellent working condition.
