Medusa table lamp by Umberto Riva for VeArt, Italy 1972

Medusa table lamp by Umberto Riva (1928-2021) for VeArt, Italy 1972. Sculptural lamp with biomorphic shapes in the form of a 'Medusa' from mouth blown Murano 'pulegoso' glass with decorative bubbles, totally in the feeling of the jellyfish theme. The lamp is illuminated with one E-27 light fitting which hangs inside the glass exactly in the middle with the use of a minimal chrome spring clamp to cause as less distraction and keep the lamp as transparent as possible, creating a beautiful atmospheric light. Riva had a remarkable career as both designer and architect, a sheer variety of design for furniture and lamps to urban planning and large architectural designs; a diverse body of work within his vision. Literature: Domus, May 1972 illustrates this lamp in a VeArt advertisement. In excellent original condition.
