Large pleated voluminous wall tapestry by Jean-Pierre Hamon, France 1970s

Large handwoven sculptural wall tapestry by Jean-Pierre Hamon (born 1947), France 1970s. Made with much tactility and persuasion from fine 100% shear wool and is showing a really great relief and variety of textures resulting in an extraordinary voluminous work, following the aesthetics of 'La Nouvelle Tapisserie' movement. All the ropes and threads were spon by hand and hand dyed by the artist. Great example of artistic talent combined with excellent craftsmanship showcasing a great variation of weaving techniques, different materials and an expressive use of contrasting colors and textures to expose the 'eruptions'. Due to the nice deep relief and strong weavings a strong play of shadows and volumes occurs. Signed on the right corner: Hamon. In very good original condition.
