Large Plaster Wall Relief by Antonio Virduzzo, Italy 1970s

Unique large plaster wall relief by Antonio Virduzzo (1926–1982), Italy 1970s. The relief is crafted from thick solid plaster and features a hand-carved surface combined with layered paint applications that create a remarkable sense of depth and optical illusion. The repetition of cylindrical forms results in a striking geometric composition, characteristic of Virduzzo’s exploration of abstraction and perception. The surface has developed a beautiful patina over time, enhancing the work’s character and sculptural presence. The work can be installed on the wall or displayed leaning against it. Virduzzo’s oeuvre moved between geometric abstraction, Op Art and sculpture. He exhibited internationally, was awarded the Grand Prix International de l’Estampe at the Venice Biennale in 1962, and was represented by leading galleries, including Denise René, one of the most influential promoters of geometric and kinetic art in Paris in the post-war period. Signed and dated Virduzzo 72 in the lower left corner. In excellent condition.
