Large metal Mobile sculpture by Arnulf Hoffmann, 1972

Large metal mobile sculpture by Arnulf Hoffmann (1935), Germany 1972. Exceptional large and early pendulum / mobile in black lacquered steel with great graphic lines showing a beautiful almost meditative movement. The repeating concept of the 'cirkel' in different variations - also implemented in the positive and negative space - in dialogue with the thin graphic lines creates a beautiful three dimensional work. The sharp lines and negative fields / open spaces throw interesting shadows and creates an ever changing view. The small brick red dots provide an intriguing contrast against the matt black surface and stimulates both the feeling of movement due to these focus points in moving state, and highlight the graphic concept when motionless. Arnulf Hoffmann was inspired by Alexander Calder and Marcel Duchamp, who revolutionized sculpture in the early 1930s with the 'Mobile'. Hoffmann developed his own more graphic style of moving art based on this. Signed and dated: AH 72. In excellent condition.
