Large Ceramic sculpture by Pier Claudio Pantieri, Italy 1950s

Large Ceramic sculpture by Pier Claudio Pantieri (1927-2022), Italy 1950s. Pantieri graduated from the G. Ballardini Art Institute in Faenza, under the guidance of Angelo Biancini. He began his artistic activity as a ceramist, created works initially inspired by 'Picassian primitivist' style, experimenting with new techniques and languages. He kept working all of his life from his hometown Forlì, the city just next the famous city of ceramics of Faenza. He could combine both passions and talent in his work; the work of a sculptor and that of a painter. We can see this back in this particular work, first of all a magnificent and unique outspoken and elegant flame shape is created balancing on a small foot providing a floating canvas to the wonderful deep colored surface and the detailed lines drawings. Besides the unique shape the hand of the sculptor can be seen back in the artistic details such as the two small holes on the top and the decisions to create a small base that almost make the sculpture looks like flowing over in the plinth. Pantieri was able to create paintings like this on his sculptures by using the Majolica technique. Signed at the bottom. The work remains in an excellent original condition.
