Rare sculptural cubic-shaped chair by Jose Zanine Caldas (1919-2001), Brazil, 1978. Extraordinary piece is hand-carved from a large block of solid Pequi wood, showcasing an incredible wood grain and remarkable annual rings. The chair features strongly hand-carved shapes and refined flowing lines, highlighting Caldas's great artistic talent and exceptional craftsmanship. Interesting contrast between the strong solid wood and its refined elegance. The wood gained a beautiful patina over the years, gently polished to point out its beauty and at the same time preserve its originality. Signed at the top of the backrest with the impressed mark: Zanine. In excellent condition.
