Large Rectangular Ceramic Vase by Jan de Rooden, Amsterdam, 1976

Monumental rectangular ceramic vase by Dutch ceramic artist Jan de Rooden, executed in 1976. This example is among the largest works he produced and stands out for its sculptural presence and refined execution. Architectural in form yet expressive in surface, the vase combines precise construction with a free, calligraphic decoration. The powerful high-fired glaze reveals subtle tonal variations within a restrained, earthy palette. The influence of De Rooden’s travels to Japan and Korea in the early 1970s can be sensed in the balance between disciplined form and gestural surface treatment. Stamped, dated, and labeled to the bottom: Jan de Rooden – 1976. In excellent condition.
