Grazia Varisco Kinetic Light artwork ‘Schemi luminosi variabili’ (R. Vod.), Italy 1962

Important Kinetic light artwork by Grazia Varisco (Milan 1937), Italy 1962. Intriguing work which shows a continuously changing ray of light streams, glittering like stars in the dark night. The work is called R. VOD and is part of the 'Schemi luminosi variabili', a serie of different Kinetic light artworks created between 1961 - 1968. The effect is produced by two acrylic glass plates, each engraved with a line structure. One plate is positioned at the front, and the other is placed behind the front mounted on a rotating motor with, lit from the back. The engraved lines let the light pass, the crossing lines creates an adjective moving moire effect. The motor can be switched on or off, allowing the light scene to be adjusted via a double switch.
Varisco attended the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan from 1956 to 1960. She was a member of 'Gruppo T', a collective of artists working within the Kinetic Art and Op Art movements. Among them where founders Giovanni Anceschi, Davide Boriani, Gianni Colombo, and Gabriele Devecchi. Works by Varisco are held in the collections of several important museums. In excellent original condition.
