Giuseppe Ravasio mod. “G999” for New Lamp, Italy ca. 1970

Giuseppe Ravasio, model “G999” table lamp for New Lamp, Italy, circa 1970. A rare and striking light sculpture by Giuseppe Ravasio, produced by the renowned radical design studio New Lamp (Rome, 1969–1973). The sculptural effect is created by 623 clear and blue square methacrylate rods, each individually adjustable between two nickel-plated metal grids, allowing the composition to continuously shift in appearance. This gives the piece its distinctive kinetic character. Each rod is handmade from an innovative powdered material, melted and formed into its square profile, revealing subtle variations in tone with delicate air bubbles that add depth and individuality. The rods are illuminated by two internal light sources, positioned on either side within the black lacquered metal frame, creating a soft, indirect and atmospheric glow, enhancing the visual rhythm of the composition. Only fifty examples of the G999 model were produced.
Literature: Catalogo ragionato Newlamp, Paolo Borromeo d’Adda, Silvana Editoriale, pp. 108–111. Light, Lamps 1968–1973: New Italian Design, Fulvio Ferrari and Napoleone Ferrari, Allemandi Editore. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the New Lamp archive. All is carefully polished and remain in excellent original condition.
