Gianfranco Fini “Riflessa” light sculpture for New Lamp, Italy ca. 1970

"Riflessa" light sculpture by Gianfranco Fini for New Lamp, Italy ca. 1970. A rare and one of the most striking light sculptures from the innovative radical design studio New Lamp (Rome, 1969-1973). Compelling design which consists a large high-gloss stainless steel frame, a white lacquered circular metal center plate, and four high-gloss aluminium cubes. The white circular center plate serves as the playfield for the aluminium cubes, which reflect the light beams coming out of the four corners of the frame in a spectacular way, creating a captivating effect and giving the lamp its name Riflessa which means reflection. The cubes feature a strong magnet, making it possible to move them around in infinite combinations – a very appealing feature that makes it an interactive design object. Although the light reflections truly bring the object to life, even when turned off, the lamp serves as a stunning minimalist kinetic art piece. The lamp can be switched on or off using the original switch on the bottom. Produced in a very limited number, a maximum of forty examples of the Riflessa model were made. Literature: the recent new book: Catalogo Ragionato Newlamp, Paolo Borromeo d'Adda, Silvana Editoriale, p. 166-169. Also published in the book: Lamps 1968-1973: New Italian Design, Fulvio Ferrari and Napoleone Ferrari, Allemandi editore no. 113. Accompanied with a certificate of authenticity. The lamp has been expertly cleaned and polished, with all original components remaining in excellent authentic condition.
