Gianfranco Fini Fabrizio Cocchia Newlamp
Italian design collectors item Lamp plexiglass stainless steel 1970s
Light sculpture high-end Cesca lamp
Giuseppe Ravasio

Gianfranco Fini & Fabrizio Cocchia “Cesca” table lamp for New Lamp, Italy 1970s

"Cesca" table lamp by Gianfranco Fini & Fabrizio Cocchia for New Lamp, Italy, 1971. A rare and striking light sculpture from the innovative radical design studio New Lamp (Rome, 1969–1973). The compelling design consists of a heavy, solid clear methacrylate base and a high-gloss, spiral-shaped stainless-steel shade. The lamp features refined details and high-end craftsmanship. It takes two E-27 bulbs, creating an atmospheric and subtle light that reflects both upwards and downwards, due to the satin-finished inner side of the shade. In addition to this atmospheric effect, the two light bulbs also illuminate the translucent plexiglass base, shining all the way to the bottom. Produced in a limited number, a maximum of fifty examples were made from the "Cesca" model. Literature: the recent book: Catalogo Ragionato Newlamp 1969–1973, Paolo Borromeo d'Adda, Silvana Editoriale, P. 92–93. Also published in the book Italian Light 1960–1980 by P. Palma & C. Vannicola, Collezione Cortopassi, Aline, Florence, 2004, page 86. The lamp has been expertly cleaned and polished to perfection, with all original components remaining in excellent, authentic condition.
