Early Alvar Aalto ‘Tank’ chair model 400, Finland 1940s

Rare early ‘Tank' chair Model 400 by Alvar Aalto, Finland 1940s. Early production by the first producer: O.Y. Huonekalu-ja Rakennustyötehdas A.b. in Turku. Stunning design out of a laminated bent birch wooden frame and a contrasting upholstered block seat and backrest. The chair owes its nickname ‘Tank’ to its distinctive wide and sturdy armrests. The chair is reupholstered in a premium 100% linen fabric with a nice raw texture. The inner copper spring core parts of the seat and backrest have been professionally reworked. In excellent condition with a beautiful characteristic warm patina on the wooden frame.
