Geometric wall relief by Henk van der Plas (1936–2009), The Netherlands 1977. An intriguing and large-scale work presenting a rhythmic composition of geometric forms in paper mâché on wood, finished in an off-white mineral paint. The surface reveals the artist’s refined and tactile approach. Van der Plas studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and was part of the The Hague–based constructivist group De Groep. His work is characterized by monochromy, an ongoing exploration of light and shadow, and a clear visual language based on geometric forms, repetition, and regularity. The angled surfaces catch the light in subtly different ways, creating a dynamic and constantly shifting play of shadow across the relief. The work is included in the monograph featuring important works by Henk van der Plas. In excellent condition.
