Joe Colombo “Sella” mod. 1001 armchair, Italy 1963
"Sella" mod. 1001 armchair by Joe Colombo for Comfort, Italy 1963. Rare version with original black shells and original black cowhide. Innovative design made of two interlocking plywood shells, a chromed metal frame, and double ‘C’-shaped plywood feet. Iconic design with a beautiful demonstration of complex bent plywood and interlocking parts. Colombo intentionally designed it as a small chair with a surprisingly comfortable seat and a generously sized “saddle” (hence the name Sella). The chair comes with the original Italian invoice where the black cowhide upholstery and black shells are described. In excellent original condition.
