Nerone & Patuzzi / Gruppo NP2 light sculpture for, Italy ca. 1970
Rare Nerone & Patuzzi light sculpture mod. C 6 104 L, Italy, ca. 1970. The sculpture shows intriguing shapes and layering, resulting in a very dynamic composition. Made out of a dark-stained wooden base, flame-cut plate steel, metal, perforated steel, lead, and copper. Both the wood and steel are patinated and accentuated for extra depth and character. Nerone stained the wood in a unique way, partly using a flame, and then added multiple layers of colored wax finish to create a rich depth. Gruppo NP2 was founded in 1962 by Nerone Ceccarelli and Giancarlo Patuzzi. Nerone was the creator of the artworks; he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and Florence and moved to Turin in 1957. He was inspired by the art and architecture of the Bauhaus movement and Constructivism, which had an important influence on his style. The work is signed and stamped on the large lead plate: Nerone e Patuzzi, NP2 Torino Italia. In excellent original condition.
