"Spaziale" light sculpture by Gianfranco Fini for New Lamp, Italy, ca. 1970. A very rare light sculpture from the innovative radical design studio New Lamp (Rome, 1969–1973). This striking design consists of clear methacrylate sheets and a high-gloss stainless steel base with a neon light source inside (see photos of the model). The light coming from the base is retransmitted to the top and illuminates particularly the edges of the methacrylate sheets. Fini first designed the "Spaziale" as a sculpture made of steel; later, he came up with the idea to create a sculptural light object from this concept. The lamp is lit by a custom-shaped neon element, which exactly follows the shape of the cut-out in the base. It was designed and made with both green and warm white neon, and we have both neon elements so the lamp can be used as preferred: green or warm white. Produced in a limited number, a maximum of sixty examples were made of the "Spaziale" model. The lamp has been expertly cleaned and polished to perfection, with all original components remaining in excellent, authentic condition.
