Gianfranco Fini mod. “Quanta” wall lamp for New Lamp, Italy ca. 1970
"Quanta" wall lamp by Gianfranco Fini for New Lamp, Italy 1969 - 1972. Rare and striking light sculpture from the innovative radical design studio New Lamp (Rome, 1969-1973). Compelling design consisting a large matt black lacquered metal frame and 144 methacrylate tubes arranged in a precise square matrix. The tubes are finished with a brushed / frosted texture on the long sides working as a filter while the polished top surfaces act as lenses, allowing light to shine through and create a captivating optical effect. Besides the wonderful grid of light the tubes are causing an interesting shadow on the surface of the object and it's surrounding. Even when turned off, the lamp serves as a stunning minimalist art piece. The lamp can be switched on or off with the original switch on the lower right corner. Produced in a very limited number, a maximum of thirty examples were made from the Quanta model.
