Ilmari Tapiovaara bookcase for La Permanente Mobili Cantù, Italy ca. 1957
Architectural bookcase by IImari Tapiovaara for La Permanente Mobili Cantù, Italy ca. 1957. Wonderful piece with a clean lines and refined functional details, nothing is overdone, resulting in a very peaceful monumental piece. Very well made out of Teak with a beautiful rich warm color and a nice subtle wood grain combined very well with the contrasting light beige natural Sisal covered doors. The sliding doors runs very smoothly and can be arranged to your personal liking; from left to right or change it from the top layer to the lower layer. The bookcase can be placed against a wall but since it's ment to stand without fixing and the back is also nicely fineshed it can also be used free in the space as a room divider / seperation wall. Original Catalog: T. Casartelli, Gio Ponti and Cantù, Furniture design and craftsmanship from La Rinascente to Selettiva, p. 126, Canturium Editions, 2017. In excellent condition.
