Abstract Carrara marble sculpture by Willy Anthoons (Belgium 1911 - Paris 1982), France 1951. Beautiful stylized flowing shapes, resulting in a calm and peaceful sculpture. The sculpture can be found back in the book by Anthoons where he is portrayed in his atelier leaning with his elbow on this particular work. Anthoons had a very moving career, he studied at La Cambre academy in Brussels with Oscar Jespers. In 1945 he co-established 'Jeune Peinture Belge', in 1948 he moved to Paris and started his abstract work. He became a very important figure in the Belgium Avant-Garde art scene. Works of Anthoons can be found in prestigious international art collections and is part of the collection of important museums worldwide among Centre Pompidou, Kröller Muller, Middelheim.
