Abstract Oak wooden sculpture by Jef van Leeuwen, 1968

Abstract wooden sculpture by Jef van Leeuwen (The Hague 1934), the Netherlands 1968. Van Leeuwen studied at the 'Vrije Academie, school of arts in The Hague, van Leeuwen was focussed on abstract sculptures with outspoken shapes during his career. Van Leeuwen mainly worked in wood, this sculpture is carved out of a heavy piece of solid Oak with characteristic dark stained grains and spots. The work shows a strong abstract cubistic yet slightly organic representation creating a fantastic exciting three-dimensional work. Made with a great technique and craftsmanship, mastering the saw, chisel and plainer in ultimate form; resulting in great shapes with a varied textured surface.Signed at the lower corner. In excellent original condition.
