Textured wall Tapestry by Annet Gaaikema, 1970s
Textured wall tapestry by Annet Gaaikema (1944), The Netherlands 1970s. Gaaikema made her breakthrough in the 1970s, she had large commissions in the Netherlands and exhibited in various galleries she also entered into the Antwerp and Parisian circles where the big textile artists were active. This specific work of Gaaikema shows an interesting texture, variation in earth tones and weaving pattern. The threads are woven in a repeating rhythm and the the loop knots increase per line. The loops create an interesting play of light and shadow and giving the tapestry a nice volume without feeling heavy. The work has a nice and strong yet harmonious feeling due to the peaceful ethnic style of the work. The work is in excellent original condition.
