Abstract Ceramic Sculpture by Cor Dam, 1970s

Unique Ceramic Sculpture by Cor Dam (1935 -2019), the Netherlands 1970s. Beautiful abstract work showing strong interlocking cubistic shapes, finished in a glossy anthracite enamel. The irregular cubic 'base' is part of the sculpture and is finished in a slightly rougher glaze which creates a nice contrast with the top. Dam studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in the Hague, he made sculptures in ceramic, concrete wood and metal beside sculptures he made paintings and ink drawings. From 1950 - 1965 Cor Dam was involved at the art department of 'De Porceleyne Fles' (est. 1665) wider known as Royal Delft where he was responsible for special art commissions. After that period he worked on many projects at 'Keramische Ateliers Structuur 68', a ceramic workshop which was the place to go for many artist who wanted to make something special in ceramic, it was the first atelier who made it possible for CoBrA artists to have their works produced in outspoken colors.
