Jacques Blin Morphological Ceramic lidded Jar, France 1960s
Rare morphological ceramic lidded Jar by Jacques Blin (1920-1995), France 1960s. Unique piece with a beautiful color scheme of aubergine and blue tones and an off white base. Interesting monochromatic engraved decoration of stylized fishes and patterns which found its inspiration out of the cave paintings of native France. Jacques Blin collaborated with the artist Jean Rustin (1928 - 2013) for the decorations. Together they developed a new technique of etching the clay creations before firing, adding to these designs later with glaze and oxides. With these steps he improved upon the execution of the semi-abstract imagery which is recognized nowadays as his signature. Jacques Blin is considered as one of the important French mid-century ceramists. The pot is signed at the bottom: J Blin. In very good original condition.
