Sori Yanagi ‘Elephant’ stool for Kotobuki, Japan 1954

Elephant stool by Sori Yanagi for Kotobuki Seating Company, Tokyo 1954. Yanagi originally designed the stool as a work chair for his studio, a couple of years later it was released by Kotobuki after the technology for producing fiberglass was developed. The stool has a beautiful sculptural design molded out of black fiberglass with nice organic bulky shapes which reminds of a baby elephant and therefore it has been given the name ‘Elephant’ stool. The stool is engraved with the editor’s mark under the seat. In very good original condition.
