Gunnar H. Gudmondsson ‘Höfðingja’ Armchair, 1961
Rare ‘Höfðingjinginn’ or ‘Chief’ armchair by Gunnar H. Gudmondsson, Iceland 1961. Hard to find item of which the first prototype was made in 1959 - 1960. The chair is made from a rectangular solid oak frame, thick natural saddle leather and refined stained brass screws.
Nice stubborn design with interesting straight crossed lines. The design reminds of a mix of ‘De Stijl' combined with the traditional Scandinavian design of that period like Børge Mogensen. The ergonomically formed saddle leather provides a very good support and is very comfortable.
In very good original condition with a beautiful warm patina.
