Pierre Chapo ‘R08’ sideboard in Solid Elm, 1970
Impressive sideboard mod. 'R08' by Pierre Chapo, France 1970. Remarkable design crafted out of solid French Elm. Sturdy yet refined design with many beautiful complex artisan details such as the wood-joint connections and special cut outs, signature for Chapo's work. Interesting asymmetric balance between the smaller drawer on the left and larger on the right. Catchy details are the two handles and the square 'block' in the middle of the sideboard, this is part is not only very decorative but also functional; it is the 'lock' of the doors. The doors have special and strong brass hinges which makes it possible to lift the doors a bit and tilt them out of the closed position behind the middle wooden block / lock construction. Behind the doors is one continuing big shelf in the middle, very practical. The sideboard is in and excellent condition and has a beautiful warm colored patina.
